About Baclivelef

Baclivelef is an independent website that brings together three things: free tools that help musicians and creators with everyday tasks, educational guides that explain how the music business works, and editorial coverage of music with a particular focus on Afrobeats, amapiano and the wider African music landscape.

What we offer

Free music tools

Our tools cover tasks that come up constantly when you make and release music: finding a song’s tempo with the BPM tap calculator, transposing chords, planning song structures and release schedules, splitting ownership between collaborators, and estimating streaming or royalty income. Each tool comes with a plain-English explanation of how it works, a worked example and its limitations, so you understand the result rather than just copying a number.

Creator guides

Our creator guides explain topics that many artists learn the hard way: how music royalties work, how songwriting splits are agreed, how distribution works and how to plan a release. We write them for people who want clear, practical answers without jargon.

Music coverage

Our music section publishes genre explainers, features and artist profiles, and our reviews section will cover new albums, EPs and singles. We pay special attention to music from Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa and to the diaspora scenes in the UK, US and Canada, alongside hip-hop, R&B, pop and gospel.

What we do — and don’t do

We aim to be accurate, useful and honest about uncertainty. In practice that means:

We explain how our calculators work and state clearly that money-related results are estimates only. Real earnings depend on contracts, territories, distributors, platforms and many other factors.
We do not give legal, financial or tax advice. For real deals and disputes, we always suggest speaking to a qualified music lawyer or accountant.
We do not publish rumours, fabricated quotes, invented statistics or unverified news about real people.
We do not reproduce song lyrics or copy biographies and press releases.
We do not sell reviews, positive coverage or playlist placements.

How our tools handle your data

Our tools run entirely in your web browser. The numbers, names and text you type into a calculator or generator are processed on your own device and are not sent to us or stored by us. When you close or refresh the page, your inputs are gone. Our privacy policy explains in detail what information is and is not collected when you use the site.

How Baclivelef is funded

Baclivelef is currently free to use and shows no advertising. To cover the costs of running and growing the site, we may in future display advertising. If we do, adverts will be clearly labelled, kept separate from our tools and editorial content, and will never influence what we write. We may also publish clearly labelled sponsored content under strict rules. Our advertising page explains our approach, and we will update our privacy policy before any advertising is introduced.

Our focus on emerging artists

Our artist profiles focus on emerging artists from East and Southern Africa, particularly East and Southern Africa, including Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique, Zambia and Botswana. We find them by looking at what listeners in those countries are searching for, then prioritising artists whom few publications have covered yet. Profiles are factual introductions based on the artist's official channels and streaming pages. Reviews are written only after a full listen and are never paid for.

Who writes Baclivelef

Content is written and maintained by the Baclivelef editorial team. We credit individual writers by name only when they are real people who have agreed to be credited. Where AI tools are used to help with drafting or editing, a human editor remains responsible for everything we publish; our editorial policy explains exactly how.
