Tracy Melon – “Tovayo”: A Soft, Committed Love Song That Leans on Its Hook
“Tovayo” by Ugandan singer Tracy Melon is a love song first and foremost. From its opening seconds it feels warm, romantic and easy-going, more interested in a relationship than in being a club hit. Its strongest assets are Tracy’s melody and a chorus that sticks.

First impression
The first few seconds set the mood straight away: this is a love song, not something trying too hard to fill a dancefloor. It feels warm and relaxed.
Production
The song moves at a mid-tempo-to-slow pace over a smooth Afrobeat groove. The production stays fairly soft and gives Tracy room to carry the melody, and the harmonies are what stand out most.
Not every production choice works as well. Some moments could be cleaner, and in places the vocal processing feels unnecessary, because Tracy already has a good natural voice that does not need it.
Vocals and performance
Tracy sounds confident but still soft enough for the romantic mood. The best of her performance comes around the chorus, where she stretches some of the notes and her voice becomes more expressive, rather than simply following the beat.
Songwriting
The song is about being deeply in love with someone and wanting that person to stay. She describes him as her other half, appreciates how well he treats her and imagines the relationship lasting as they grow older together. It feels more committed than a simple crush.
Structurally, it is quite simple. If the hook does not catch you, there is not a big change later in the song to win you over.
Standout moment
From around 0:20, the song settles into its main hook. That is the section that stays with you after one listen, and the part most people will remember.
Replay value and who it is for
This is one for couples, romantic playlists, relaxed evenings and radio. The chorus could also work well on TikTok, Instagram Reels and in relationship videos. At just over three minutes, it does not overstay its welcome.

Final thoughts
We recommend it, especially if you like relaxed East African love songs. Tracy Melon’s melody and the catchy chorus are the strongest parts of “Tovayo”. The production could be a little cleaner and the structure is simple, but at just over three minutes it makes its point and leaves.
