Who is Tracy Melon?

Tracy Melon’s official YouTube channel describes her as an artist and songwriter. In an interview published by The Observer on 27 April 2025 she gave her real name as Tracy Mirembe, said she built a following on TikTok by posting song covers, and described “Kakana” as the song that helped her break through.

Her releases on streaming services go back to August 2022, and almost all of them carry a Trroy Music rights line; since mid-2025 they have been distributed by ONErpm. You can read more on our Tracy Melon artist page.

Her co-writer on “Tovayo”, Dokta Brain, is himself a Ugandan singer and songwriter, and he won Best Song Writer at the same Galaxy FM awards where Tracy Melon won three categories (see below).

About the title

“Tovayo” is a Luganda title. No official explanation of it has been published, and we have not found a reliable source that explains what it means, so we are not offering a translation here. We will add one if the artist or a reliable source explains it.

Why people are searching for it

In September 2026 we studied Google Trends data for the previous 12 months, looking at the related queries that appear alongside searches for MP3 and audio downloads in each country. Most of the Ugandan related queries took the form “song by artist mp3 download”. In Uganda, “Tovayo” was recorded as a Breakout related query.

Google Trends uses the Breakout label when a related search grows by more than 5,000% over the chosen period, usually because very few people searched for it at the start. It measures how fast interest grew, not how many searches there were in total, and it says nothing about how good a song is.

The awards

Tracy Melon has had more attention than most of the artists in our research. Galaxy FM, a radio station in Kampala, runs its own annual Zzina Awards, and in the winners it published on 12 February 2026 for the Zzina Awards 2025–2026 she took Best Female Artist, Best Contemporary Urban Artist and Breakthrough Artist.

Her 2025 single “Ogenda Kukilaba” was nominated for Song of the Year and Best Contemporary Urban Song, and she was one of six nominees for Artist of the Year; those three categories went to Kapeke, Joshua Baraka and Jae5, and Kapeke again. “Tovayo” itself was not among the nominated songs. These are one radio station’s own awards, voted for on its website, rather than an industry-wide prize.

Where it fits in the catalogue

Tracy Melon’s first singles, “Nakupenda” and “Mwana Wa Kintu”, came out in August 2022, followed by “Teleera” and “Bintwala” with Aliddeki Brian in 2023 and the EP Smile that November. “Kakana” arrived in November 2024, and “Sumagiza” and “Ogenda Kukilaba” in the first half of 2025.

“Tovayo” followed in September 2025, and three months later she revisited it, along with “Kakana” and “Ogenda Kukilaba”, on the four-track EP Tracy Melon in Acoustic (19 December 2025), whose acoustic versions are credited with Maestro Studios. She also appears on other artists’ records, including Kataleya & Kandle’s “Totta” (2025) and songs by Stream Of Life Choir and Green Daddy.
