Who is behind it
Tracy Melon’s official YouTube channel describes her as an artist and songwriter. In an April 2025 interview with The Observer she gave her real name as Tracy Mirembe, said she built a following on TikTok by posting song covers, and described “Kakana” as the song that helped her break through. Her releases on streaming services go back to 2022, and almost all of them carry a Trroy Music credit. You can read more on our Tracy Melon artist page.
Her co-writer on “Tovayo”, Dokta Brain, is himself a Ugandan singer and songwriter. He won Best Song Writer at the same Galaxy FM awards where Tracy Melon won three categories (see below).
What the title means
“Tovayo” is a Luganda title. We have not found an official or otherwise reliable source that explains what it means, so we are not offering a translation here. We will add one if the artist or a reliable source explains it.
Why people are searching for it
In our September 2026 research we looked at Google Trends data for Uganda over the past 12 months, focusing on the related queries that appear alongside searches for MP3 and audio downloads. Many of the Ugandan queries took the form “song by artist mp3 download”. “Tovayo” by Tracy Melon appeared as a Breakout query.
“Breakout” is a label Google Trends gives to a related query whose search interest grew by more than 5,000% over the chosen period. It usually means that very few people searched for the phrase at the start of the period. It tells you how quickly interest grew, not how many searches there were in total. It is also no guide to what the song sounds like or how good it is.
Tracy Melon herself has had more attention than most of the artists in our research. At Galaxy FM’s Zzina Awards 2025–2026, announced in February 2026, she won Best Female Artist, Best Contemporary Urban Artist and Breakthrough Artist, and her 2025 single “Ogenda Kukilaba” was nominated for Song of the Year. “Tovayo” itself was not among the nominated songs.
Many of the download searches lead to sites that host music without the artist’s permission. We do not link to them. The official options are listed below.
Where it fits in the catalogue
Tracy Melon’s first singles, “Nakupenda” and “Mwana Wa Kintu”, came out in 2022, followed by the EP Smile in 2023. “Kakana” arrived in November 2024, and “Sumagiza” and “Ogenda Kukilaba” in the first half of 2025. “Tovayo” followed in September 2025, and three months later she revisited it, along with “Kakana” and “Ogenda Kukilaba”, on Tracy Melon in Acoustic. Her 2026 releases include “Nkwatako (Touch Me)”, “Tonalaba” with Mojo, and “Nhono”. If you want to hear the song in context, go back to “Kakana”.
