Who is behind it

Iyanii describes himself on his official YouTube channel as a Kenyan vocalist, singer, songwriter and performer. Most of his catalogue is filed under Afro-Pop on Apple Music, and many of his titles are in Swahili. His guest on “Donjo Maber”, Dufla Diligon, is a Kenyan dancehall artist.

Apple Music credits the song’s writing to Ian Oure Okwemba and names Iyanii as executive producer, with Iyanii and Dufla both credited on vocals. No separate producer or engineer is listed, so we have not guessed at one. See our Iyanii artist page for more on his background.

About the title

The title is in Dholuo, the language of the Luo people of western Kenya. The Kenyan station Ghetto Radio, writing on the day of release, glossed “Donjo Maber” as a Dholuo phrase that loosely means something enjoyable to the core, or hitting the right spot. We have found no translation published by the artists themselves, so treat that as a helpful guide rather than a definitive one.

Why people are searching for it

In September 2026 we studied Google Trends data for the previous 12 months, looking at the related queries that appear alongside searches for MP3 and audio downloads in each country. In Kenya, “Donjo Maber” appeared among the Rising related queries.

Google Trends lists a query as rising when searches for it grew noticeably over the chosen period compared with the period before. It is a sign of growing curiosity, not a count of searches, plays or sales, and it says nothing about how good a song is. The service reserves its stronger Breakout label for related searches that grow by more than 5,000% over the period, a measure of how fast interest grew rather than how many searches there were; “Donjo Maber” was a rising query rather than a Breakout one.

The official music video on Iyanii’s YouTube channel showed about 29.8 million views when we checked on 22 September 2026, and the official lyric video on the same channel showed about 284,000.

Iyanii’s releases on streaming services begin with the single “Memories” in 2020, followed by “Pombe” and “Furaha” in 2021. “Furaha” was remixed with the Tanzanian star Harmonize in 2022. He has also appeared on songs by King Kaka, Femi One and Vic West. His other 2025 singles include “Unanifaa” and “Tamu”. The acoustic version of “Donjo Maber”, released on 10 October 2025, is listed on streaming services as a separate single.
